Cousteau Invents Submarine That Looks Like A Shark

Inspired by one of my favourite TinTin books, Red Rackham’s Treasure, Fabien Cousteau has built a submarine that looks like a great white shark. Wired reports how the grandson of the iconic ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau built the sharksub to help with the filming of great whites for his documentary Mind Of A Demon. Rather than doing the usual lunge-and-batter routine towards divers in a cage, as seen on so many previous shark documentaries, great whites apparently treat the sharksub as one of their own. This has let Cousteau film the sharks in a much more naturalistic state rather than the usual feeding frenzy we so often see – and which does nothing to disperse the Jaws nightmares everyone still has about sharks. (Don’t even get me started on Open Water).

Cousteau’s documentary is still in post-production and promises to do a great deal for great white’s reputation when it’s released.
