Making The Headlines

How I love the Bangkok Post. One of Thailand’s two English language daily papers, the Bangkok Post is an entertaining mix of local and international news, with most of the overseas reporting coming direct from the wire services and a mix of quality American and British papers. The result is a handy digest of different sentiments from several sources. The sub editors at the Post clearly have a sense of humour, too. The In Brief columns are invariably filled with the wackiest stories they can find from the wires, the stuff that’s usually filed under Oddly Enough. Sometimes, like today, one of the weird stories will make a break for the front page. “Bridge Under Urine Threat” was the headline that greeted me this morning. Not the lead, true, but sitting right next to it in a big prominent box. Marvellous stuff.

The bridge, incidentally, is in Indonesia and in danger of collapsing because so many people piss against one of its pillars. True story. It’s from AFP, so a Google news search should turn it up.
